SUMMARY:38th Annual National Cowboy Poetry Gathering
DESCRIPTION:It all began as a time and place where Western ranchers and cowboys could gather to share poems about their lives working cattle. Three decades later\, the tribe is now a nation of Western poets\, musicians\, artisans and storytellers\, sharing their creativity across the country\, telling their stories of hard work\, heartbreak and hilarity\, and what it means to make your way in the rangeland West. The 38th National Cowboy Poetry Gathering will take place in Elko\, Nevada\, Jan. 24-29\, 2022! We will be “Keeping the West Wild\,” inviting western poets\, songwriters\, artists\, artisans\, and land stewards to bring new and old stories to light as they endeavor to create a West that hosts healthy and hospitable landscapes and agriculture-based communities. More details will be available soon about the artist lineup and schedule\, so stay tuned. \nAnd in the meantime\, consider joining the Western Folklife Center as a member. This allows you early access to purchase 2022 Gathering tickets beginning Oct. 25\, 2021\, plus you can also watch our virtual event from this past January as well as full shows from the 2020 Gathering.

SUMMARY:Straw Bale Gardening
DESCRIPTION:Learn how to garden using straw bales instead of traditional gardening methods! Fun and easy for the whole family.\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this event\n\n\nStraw Bale Gardening is simply a different type of container gardening. The main difference is that the container is the straw bale itself and is held together with two or three strings. Once the straw inside the bale begins to decay the straw becomes “conditioned” compost that creates an extraordinary plant rooting environment. Getting the straw bales conditioned is an essential part of the process\, and should be started two weeks prior to your target planting date wherever you are located. This gardening technique works well anywhere in the country or the world for that matter.

SUMMARY:Straw Bale Gardening Class
DESCRIPTION:Learn how to garden using straw bales instead of traditional gardening methods! Fun and easy for the whole family. \nStraw Bale Gardening is simply a different type of container gardening.
