DESCRIPTION:Artown’s mission is to strengthen Reno’s arts industry\, enhance our civic identity and national image\, thereby creating a climate for the cultural and economic rebirth of our region. \nArtown has been inspiring community through the arts since 1996. \nArtown’s primary goal is to encourage local artist participation and highlight the best performers in northern Nevada. Additionally\, we exist to market and promote these arts events locally\, regionally\, and nationally as a premier arts festival. Artown\, a month-long summer arts festival\, features about 500 events produced by more than 100 organizations and businesses in nearly 100 locations citywide. \nOur anchor events continue to be a mix of regional and national excellence. Most events are free or low cost. Support from corporate sponsors\, foundations and individual donors enables Artown to bring some of the world’s greatest artists and performances into our community. And in doing so\, Artown has given Reno a new reputation: that of a town with a vibrant artistic and cultural community. \nNone of this would be possible without the financial contributions of our primary supporter\, The City of Reno. Artown receives major funding from the following sponsors: NV Energy\, IGT\, Reno-Tahoe\, Nevada State Bank\, University of Nevada\, Reno\, Washoe County\, Wild River Grille\, Fox 11 News 4\, NSN TV\, KUNR Public Radio\, and KNPB Public Television with additional support from the Nevada Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts. \nThis project is funded\, in part\, by a grant from the Nevada Arts Council\, a state agency\, and the National Endowment for the Arts\, a federal agency. \nArtown is incorporated as a 501(c)(3) charitable nonprofit agency registered in the State of Nevada (EIN 88-0412311). Plans for the party of the century were well underway last year when the whole world changed and forced us to pause to protect the whole operation\, “Che peccato.” Well\, the time to pick up a mic and fedora\, step into the spotlight and saddle up is now\, and we’re ready to let you in on a little secret- we’ve figured out a way to move our party upriver and bring back the city’s best pop-up celebration in the park for 2021. \nTHE MUSIC\nThe Reno Phil honors “The First Lady of Song” Ella Fitzgerald. This concert will feature many of her most beloved hits from the Great American Songbook\, including How High the Moon\,  Summertime\, A-Tisket\, A-Tasket\, Satin Doll\, Blue Skies\,  and many more.  Starring the Reno Phil Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Laura Jackson and two amazing vocalists\, Capathia Jenkins & Aisha de Haas. Join the Reno Phil  for an unforgettable journey through some of history’s most cherished songs.
