SUMMARY:Classical Tahoe: Haydn\, Schubert\, & Wagner
DESCRIPTION:Wagner’s Siegfriend Idly is a “musical love letter” and grand gesture of affection to his wife Cosima. Wagner presented it to Cosima on her 33rd birthday\, also Christmas day. Perfect for date night in Lake Tahoe!\n\n“As I awoke\, my ear caught a sound\, which swelled fuller and fuller. . . . Music was sounding\, and such music! When it died away\, Richard came into my room with the children and offered me the score of the symphonic birthday poem. I was in tears\, but so was the rest of the household.” \n– Cosima Wagner\, the wife of Richard Wagner\, 1870 \n\nHaydn’s Sinfonia Concertante is light\, quirky\, and classically enjoyable music featuring four Classical Tahoe Orchestra musicians as soloists: Sarah Vonsattel\, violin\, Winona Zelenka\, cello\, Nathan Hughes\, oboe\, and Whitney Crockett\, bassoon.\nWhen Schubert wrote his Symphony No.3\, he was just 18 years old!

Themes range from the delicate elegance of Tang court ladies to the battlefield heroics of valiant generals\, from the timeless philosophical works of Lao-Tzu to spectacular scenes of magical realms. Some pieces also touch upon the topic of today’s China\, shedding light on the oppression many experience for their spiritual beliefs\, such as Falun Dafa. SUMMARY:Genoa Candy Dance & Faire
DESCRIPTION:This event has passed. Click here to see the 2022 Genoa Candy Dance & Faire. \nFor generations\, locals and visitors alike have flocked to Nevada’s oldest permanent settlement\, for the Annual Candy Dance! The event originated with a humble and simple need…street lights. Yes\, street lights. In 1919\, the town needed to raise money to purchase and install the lights. Prominent Genoa resident Lillian Virgin Finnegan developed the idea to host a dance\, and pass out homemade candy\, as a fundraiser and the first Genoa Candy Dance was born. \nThe first Candy Dance was a success and the streetlights were purchased. However\, the maintenance costs and electricity bills raised another funding problem\, which was solved by making the Candy Dance an annual fundraiser. Almost 100 years later\, the Candy Dance has grown to more than 300 craft and food vendors. In fact\, they close the streets to vehicles during the two-day event. \nGenoa Candy Dance Fun Facts: \n\nOf the 10 original lights in town\, 9 still burn brightly.\nLillian Virgin Finnegan was an active supporter of women’s suffrage.\nToday the Genoa Candy Dance funds about ⅔ of the town’s annual budget.\nEvery year volunteers make about 4\,000 pounds of Genoa’s famous homemade candy.\nA craft fair was added to the event in the 1970s.\nThe event draws about 50\,000 visitors.\n\nThis annual event is always held the last full weekend of September. Make your travel plans soon to enjoy this historic event! \nStay up-to-date on Carson Valley events and activities by connecting with us on Facebook\, Twitter\, and Instagram. \nTake a self-guided tour around Genoa with this Candy Dance Street Light Map

SUMMARY:Churchill Arts Council Fall Film Series
DESCRIPTION:Pan’s Labyrinth (2006)\, Friday\, September 10 – Mexican filmmaker Guillermo del Toro directs this haunting fantasy-drama set in the aftermath of the Spanish Civil War and detailing the strange journeys of an imaginative young girl who may be the mythical princess of an underground kingdom. Shy young Ofelia (Ivana Baquero) is forced to entertain herself while her recently remarried mother\, Carmen (Ariadna Gil)\, lies immobilized in anticipation of her forthcoming child with sadistic army captain Vidal (Sergi López). While her high-ranking stepfather remains determined to fulfill the orders of General Francisco Franco to crush a nearby guerilla uprising\, the young girl soon ventures into an elaborate stone labyrinth presided over by the mythical faun Pan (Doug Jones) and sets out to reclaim her kingdom. \nLady Bird (2017)\, Friday\, September 17 – This coming-of-age tale set in 2002 Sacramento centers on Christine McPherson (Saoirse Ronan)\, an eccentric teenager who prefers to go by the name “Lady Bird.” Over the course of her senior year of high school\, Lady Bird deals with the pangs of first love and clashes with her mother (Laurie Metcalf) over her plans for the future. Written and directed by Greta Gerwig\, who loosely based the story on her own life. Tracy Letts\, Timothee Chalamet\, and Lucas Hedges co-star. \nMinari (2020)\, Friday\, September 24 – Steven Yeun\, Yeri Han\, Yuh-jung Youn\, and Will Patton star in writer-director Lee Isaac Chung’s poignant and semi-autobiographical immigrant family drama. A Korean American family relocates to a small farm in Arkansas in the 1980s – to pursue their own version of the American Dream. The arrival of their irreverent grandmother disrupts the balance they try to maintain between cultural assimilation and autonomy. \n\n\nFRIDAYS\, SEPTEMBER 10\, 17 & 24\, 7pm \nBox Office\, Art Bar & Galleries Open at 6pm\nMovie Screening at 7pm \nTickets\nMembers $7 [3-Movie Special $18]\nNon-Members $10 [3-Movie Special $27]\nTickets available at the Box Office night\nof screening or call CAC at 775-423-1440 \nBarkley Theatre\, Oats Park Art Center\n151 East Park Street · Fallon\, Nev. 89406\nGet Directions \nFor More Information\nCall 775-423-1440\ninfo@churchillarts.org

The man NBC Nightly News called “comedy’s new superstar” is showing no signs of slowing down. \nNot only has the star power of Maniscalco rocketed upward in the past few years thanks to shows described by Billboard as “devastatingly full force comedy\,” but also due to his high-energy Netflix Original special\, “Stay Hungry\,” now streaming. The special\, which was taped over a span of five sold-out shows at the legendary Radio City Music Hall\, had Maniscalco playing for a total of 28\,312 longtime fans and early believers in his unique comedic voice. \nVulture recently said of the entertainer’s journey to success\, “Maniscalco\, without a breakout TV or film role\, built a tremendous fan base the old-fashioned way: one joke at a time\, one audience at a time.” Although he may not have started his career in film\, Maniscalco’s loyal fans will continue to see more acting roles from him\, following a performance opposite Robert DeNiro\, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci in Martin Scorsese’s “The Irishman.” \nEnhancements to the resort’s health and safety protocols were developed in collaboration with health experts. GSR Clean furthers the resort’s already rigorous sanitation protocols as well as implements social distance considerations and hundreds of additional practices to minimize risk for guests and team members.
