DESCRIPTION:The Lake Tahoe Dance Festival is a presentation of the Lake Tahoe Dance Collective\, whose mission is to promote classical\, modern and contemporary dance of the finest quality in the Lake Tahoe area through performance\, education and outreach\, enriching the community as a whole and as a cultural destination. \n​ \nThe festival was started to present the finest  professional dance and dance instruction in North Lake Tahoe. \n​ \nThe festival is directed by longtime friends and collaborators\, Constantine Baecher and Christin Hanna\, who’s friendship started in 1998 at American Ballet Theatre’s summer program in New York. \n​ \nThe festival offers three days of main stage performances\, audience participatory demonstrations\, site-specific installations\, meet-the-artists talks and more. The festival celebrates a variety of today’s most exciting working choreographers while preserving beloved classics of the past; including works by George Balanchine\, Lester Horton\, and Erick Hawkins.

Choreographed by Alexander Van Alstyne\, Beauty and the Beast is the captivating story of the handsome prince who is cursed by an evil witch and transformed into a hideous Beast. He will remain a Beast until someone falls in love with him. That someone is of course\, Beauty. \nThis classic story is filled with mesmerizing dance\, intrigue\, and is fun for the entire family. The Reno Philharmonic Orchestra will perform Tchaikovsky’s exciting score. \nOutstanding guest principal dancers who have danced with Ballet San Antonio and Ballet Idaho will perform with the large cast from A.V.A. Ballet Theatre. \nThe Saturday April 23rd performance will be held at 8pm and the Sunday April 24th performance will be at 2pm. Ticket prices for adults are $30 to $57. The annual event features a festive parade and Street Fair throughout historic downtown Nevada City\, offering up spirited fun for all ages \nNevada City has been known to throw a party and its version of Fat Tuesday is no exception! People come just for this colorful annual event that lights up the streets with bright costumes\, beads and a sense of playfulness. \nCome early for lunch and shopping. The Street Fair on N. Pine & Commercial Streets open from 12pm-4pm\, you can find accessories for your perfect costume\, shop hand-made gifts or pick up some extra beads for friends. Mardi Gras shirts\, masks will be available for sale\, along with vendors selling food\, drinks\, and more. \nSpectators will crowd the streets to enjoy the floats and revelers at the annual Mardi Gras Parade\, which starts at 2pm on Broad Street. Everyone is encouraged to wear festive Mardi Gras attire. \nAlong with the fun\, Nevada City also honors noteworthy citizens for their contributions to the community. Each year the Mardi Gras Planning Committee chooses four (4) individuals that have impacted Nevada City’s community positively to serve as the Mardi Gras King and Queen and the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess. The committee also honors a Grand Marshal\, who leads the parade.
