This free community event celebrating the joys and benefits of growing food in high elevation regions will also have a special emphasis on watershed-friendly practices. Formerly individual weekly workshops\, now single day events in South Lake Tahoe\, Tahoe City\, and Truckee focused on the edible plants that grow best in our unique mountain climate. \nWhether you are a seasoned gardener or just starting out\, this event has something for everyone. Hosted at three unique locations in the Truckee-Tahoe region. Attend one or all\, either way it’s FREE! \n\nFriday\, May 31\, 4pm – 7pm @ the UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center’s Tahoe City Field\nStation\nSaturday\, June 1st\, 11am – 2pm @ the Slow Food Lake Tahoe Gardens in Truckee\nSaturday\, June 8th\, 11am – 2pm @ the Tallac Historic Site in South Lake Tahoe\n\nAt each location\, attendees will have the opportunity to pick-up seeds/seedlings each selected for their abilities to perform during our short growing season. DESCRIPTION:Slow Food Lake Tahoe is hosting a first-ever FREE veggie seed give away (and some herb and flower seeds too\, just for fun!). This family-friendly event is designed to help you jump start our short growing season by providing you with seeds to start indoors NOW. The seeds provided have been shown to grow best in our high elevation climate. In fact\, they are the same varieties SFLT uses in their SFLT gardens. Check out the best in seeds for peas\, beans\, greens\, beets\, carrots and radishes (and more)! \nAll ages and skill levels are welcome. \nActivities include a reading circle with some of the best children’s stories about gardening and seeds\, coloring\, crafts (think “make your own pollinator” and a birdfeeder) and learn how to harvest seeds from flower heads (and store them in the seed envelope you make yourself).
