SUMMARY:Classical Tahoe: Sibelius\, Séjourné\, & Rachmaninoff
DESCRIPTION:Sibelius’s Finlandia had its origins in political protest. It was written for the Finnish Press Pension Celebration of 1899\, a thinly veiled rally in support of freedom of the Finnish press\, then largely controlled by tsarist Russia. Sibelius later reworked parts of the music into a Finlandia Hymn which is today regarded as Finland’s unofficial national anthem.\nIt’s not often that a percussion instrument like the marimba is a featured soloist with an orchestra. Praised by the New York Times for his “understated but unmistakable virtuosity”\, Svet Stoyanov will play Séjourné’s Concerto for Marimba which combines the romantic and jazzy sounds of the instrument.\nRachmaninoff’s Symphony No. 2 is a favorite of many because of its continuous lush\, sweeping\, romantic melodies that will be sure to touch your soul.

SUMMARY:Classical Tahoe: Haydn\, Schubert\, & Wagner
DESCRIPTION:Wagner’s Siegfriend Idly is a “musical love letter” and grand gesture of affection to his wife Cosima. Wagner presented it to Cosima on her 33rd birthday\, also Christmas day. Perfect for date night in Lake Tahoe!\n\n“As I awoke\, my ear caught a sound\, which swelled fuller and fuller. . . . Music was sounding\, and such music! When it died away\, Richard came into my room with the children and offered me the score of the symphonic birthday poem. I was in tears\, but so was the rest of the household.” \n– Cosima Wagner\, the wife of Richard Wagner\, 1870 \n\nHaydn’s Sinfonia Concertante is light\, quirky\, and classically enjoyable music featuring four Classical Tahoe Orchestra musicians as soloists: Sarah Vonsattel\, violin\, Winona Zelenka\, cello\, Nathan Hughes\, oboe\, and Whitney Crockett\, bassoon.\nWhen Schubert wrote his Symphony No.3\, he was just 18 years old!

SUMMARY:An Evening to RAVE About! A Night in the City
DESCRIPTION:Family-style dining\, silent and live auctions\, raffle\, entertainment\, beer and wine. To benefit the R.A.V.E. Family Center: \nProviding respite to families caring for children with special needs while training high school volunteers to work with these very special children. \nFamilies that have children with special needs have their own special need: the need for time. That means time for mom to enjoy a workout. Time for couples to enjoy a date night. Or for families to catch a movie\, go bowling\, play Scrabble or settle into a nice\, quiet storytelling session. Those are the kinds of pleasures and pastimes that go a long way toward giving you peace\, power and the ability to connect with yourself and others who are occasionally lost in the process of focusing on a child with special challenges. \nIn the meantime\, while you’re enjoying your own moment of reprieve\, your child with special needs is likely enjoying his or her own form of respite and discovery as well. \nCreating these healthy moments of escape is what RAVE is all about\, little “time outs” with tremendously positive outcomes.

SUMMARY:Bonnie Raitt
DESCRIPTION:Bluesy singer/songwriter Bonnie Raitt has worked long and hard for her multiple Grammy Awards\, hit singles and chart-topping records. Since her 1971 eponymous debut\, the California-born performer and long-time activist has steadily maintained a music career\, albeit with definite peaks and valleys. The red-headed songstress\, one of the only women of her time to play guitar using the bottleneck technique\, unleashed seven albums in just nine years\, though her big commercial break came with her 10th studio set\, 1989’s “Nick of Time.” That 11-track collection\, produced by Don Was\, earned three Grammy Awards\, including Album of the Year. \nNot only has the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer tackled multiple U.S. tours and international runs\, but she’s also a frequent participant in events of social activism\, such as Farm Aid and Amnesty International concerts. \nRaitt’s 16th full-length album and most recent studio release\, “Slipstream\,” hit retailers in 2012. Not only did ticket sales for the support tour soar\, but Raitt also landed the best-selling blues album of the year and took home the Grammy for Best Americana Album.

SUMMARY:The Go-Go's
DESCRIPTION:Formed amid LA’s burgeoning punk and new wave scene in the late ’70s\, the Go-Go’s got their start playing seminal venues like The Whiskey A Go Go and The Roxy. For their 1981 debut LP Beauty and the Beat\, the band eschewed their early punk sound in favor of a more radio-friendly brand of power pop — with phenomenal results. The album peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard 200\, spawning the hit singles “Our Lips Are Sealed” and “We Got the Beat” and earning the girls the Best New Artist award at the 1982 Grammys. 1982 follow-up Vacation was a similar success\, landing two more hits on the charts and going on to be certified Gold by the RIAA. Following an initial breakup in 1985\, the band’s members embarked on various solo ventures\, reuniting periodically over the years to record and tour. Back on the road for another highly anticipated tour\, the Go-Go’s will bring their signature energy to venues around the country.

SUMMARY:Shen Yun 2022
DESCRIPTION:Shen Yun is a brilliant artistic revival and celebration of China’s rich cultural heritage. Each performance consists of about 20 pieces\, quickly moving from one legend\, region\, or dynasty to the next. Themes range from the delicate elegance of Tang court ladies to the battlefield heroics of valiant generals\, from the timeless philosophical works of Lao-Tzu to spectacular scenes of magical realms. Some pieces also touch upon the topic of today’s China\, shedding light on the oppression many experience for their spiritual beliefs\, such as Falun Dafa. These tales of courage are often what audience members find the most touching and uplifting.
