SUMMARY:High Noon
DESCRIPTION:Nevada Historical Society presents High Noon with Neal Cobb\, a wonderful history series that delves into fascinating Nevada topics with local experts. Neal Cobb is a passionate historian and honorary curator for the Nevada Historical Society. He loves all things Nevada. Join Neal Cobb and our monthly speakers as we explore interesting topics and join in the audience conversations. \n \nNevada Day Parade\, 2022 \n\nThe Nevada Day Parade is the largest celebration of statehood in the nation\, right here in Carson City.  No other state does their birthday party like we do!  And it’s been going on for 85 years. My speech will be about the history of the Nevada Day celebration\, featuring old black and white photos that show the floats from the days when showgirls from the casinos rode on them.  I have some fun stories to share along with photos of covers of the parade programs from yesteryear all in comparison to the types of entries and artwork we see in the parade today.   It will be a time capsule about the history of Nevada Day parades. \nSeptember Speaker: Brooke Santina \n\nA native Nevada\, Brooke Santina has experience handling large scale events through her work experience in Law \n \nBrooke Santina \n\nEnforcement and Communications as a deputy sheriff and PIO for the Washoe County Sheriff’s office. In 2015\, Santina worked for the Nevada Department of Corrections\, overseeing communications\, and managing all media for Nevada’s prisons. In 2022\, Santina became the Executive Director of Nevada Day\, Inc.\, the non-profit that puts on the Nevada Day parade. This is the largest celebration of statehood in the nation\, right here in Carson City. She is the mother of two grown children and holds a BA in communications from UNR and a published novelist. \nMake sure to arrive early as we have limited seating available in our Event Space. Don’t forget\, we provide free\, temporary parking permits to make it easier to visit NHS!

SUMMARY:Genoa Candy Dance Arts & Crafts Faire
DESCRIPTION:A number of special events occur throughout the year in Genoa\, but none are more significant than the annual Genoa Candy Dance Arts & Crafts Faire. This event\, which boasts over 300 arts and crafts\, activity\, and food vendors\, draws thousands of people to Genoa during the two-day event. \nThe original Genoa Candy Dance and Dinner fundraiser in 1919 was held by the ladies of the town to pay for the purchase of street lights for Genoa. After the lights were purchased\, it became necessary to continue the fundraising to cover the cost of the electricity\, and in 1974 the Arts & Crafts Faire was added to the event. The Genoa Candy Dance tradition continues to support the Town of Genoa today\, and just as it was a hundred years ago\, today’s event is made possible through the invaluable efforts of volunteers. \nWhether you support the Town of Genoa by volunteering or by attending the Arts & Crafts Faire or Dinner-Dance\, we thank you for making this event a success! \nFor more information about the event\, you can contact us by email or call the Town Office.\nFor information about volunteer opportunities for the event\, visit our Genoa Candy Dance Volunteers Page \n2023 Genoa Candy Dance Vendor Application available NOW!\n* Vendor Application Deadline is July 1\, 2023 * Get you application in today! *\nPlease visit the Vendor Application page for more information and to download the Vendor Application Form for the this year’s Genoa Candy Dance Arts & Crafts Faire.
